Its highlights include three UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Mahabalipuram monuments, the Great Living Chola Temples of Thanjavur and the Nilgiri Mountain Railway. A first trip typically needs 5 to 8 days, and the best season is October to March. - [Kerala](https://www.coromandeltrails.com/south-india/kerala/): Kerala adds green hills and calm water to a South India journey: tea estates in Munnar, spice gardens in Thekkady, an overnight houseboat on the Alleppey backwaters and the old port of Fort Kochi. Most travellers spend 5 to 7 days in Kerala, ideally between October and March. - [Karnataka](https://www.coromandeltrails.com/south-india/karnataka/): Karnataka holds two of South India's great heritage experiences: the royal city of Mysuru with its illuminated palace, and Hampi, the UNESCO-listed ruins of the Vijayanagara capital. A combined Mysuru and Hampi trip takes about 8 days from Bengaluru. - [Tirupati](https://www.coromandeltrails.com/south-india/tirupati/): Tirupati, in Andhra Pradesh, is home to the Sri Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala, one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world. It is about 3 to 4 hours by road from Chennai, so our 4-day journey starts and ends in Chennai. ## Frequently asked questions ### Which parts of India does Coromandel Trails cover? Only South India for now: Tamil Nadu (our home base, with Puducherry), Kerala, Karnataka and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. We add regions only once our own team has vetted the hotels, drivers and guides there. ### What is the best time to visit South India? October to March is the most comfortable period for most of South India. April to June is very hot. Kerala and Karnataka receive the southwest monsoon from June to September, and coastal Tamil Nadu receives the northeast monsoon from about October to December. ### How much does a private South India tour cost? Our signature journeys start from ₹55,000 per person for 5 days and go up to about ₹1,85,000 for 15 days, based on two people sharing. Prices include hotels, a private car and driver, breakfast and guided visits, and exclude international flights. Every trip receives a written, itemised quotation. ### Is South India safe for international tourists? South India is widely visited by international travellers. With us you travel in a private vehicle with a vetted driver, stay in inspected hotels and have a 24/7 escalation contact in India, with a documented plan for missed pickups, lost passports and medical needs. ### Do I need a visa to visit India? Most nationalities need a visa. Many can apply for an Indian e-Visa directly on the official government portal, indianvisaonline.gov.in. We provide document checklists and guidance free of charge with any booking, but we do not charge for e-Visa applications, as intermediaries are not permitted to. ### Can non-Hindus visit temples in Tamil Nadu and Kerala? Most Tamil Nadu temples welcome visitors of all faiths into the outer halls and corridors, while some inner sanctums are reserved for Hindus. Several major Kerala temples restrict entry to Hindus. Your guide confirms the current rules for each temple before you visit. ### What should I wear to temples in South India? Cover your shoulders and knees, and remove your shoes before entering. Some temples have stricter dress codes, such as a dhoti for men or a saree or salwar for women. We send a dress-code note with your welcome pack. ### What is included in a Coromandel Trails package? Each package includes hotel accommodation, a private air-conditioned car and driver, daily breakfast, licensed guides for listed sightseeing, airport transfers and a 24/7 support line. International flights, visas, travel insurance and personal expenses are not included. ### How quickly will I receive a quotation? We reply to new enquiries within 30 minutes during Indian business hours, and send a tailored itinerary and quotation within 24 hours of understanding your requirements. ### Can you arrange trips for seniors or travellers with limited mobility? Yes. Our South India Senior Citizen Care journey uses accessible hotels, spacious vehicles, gentle pacing and a coordinator who travels with you. Tell us your needs and we confirm what each site can accommodate. ### Do you work with overseas travel agencies? Yes. Travel agencies and consultants abroad can send us their clients' requirements. We return a net wholesale itinerary and run the entire journey on the ground while the agency keeps the client relationship and its agreed margin. ### Where is Coromandel Trails based? Our operations team is based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, which is also the most common arrival airport for our journeys. ## Pages - [Home](https://www.coromandeltrails.com/) - [All journeys](https://www.coromandeltrails.com/journeys/) - [South India travel guide](https://www.coromandeltrails.com/south-india/) - [FAQ](https://www.coromandeltrails.com/faq/) - [For travel agencies](https://www.coromandeltrails.com/travel-agents/) - [Travel blog](https://www.coromandeltrails.com/blog/)
